Early 2024/23 Football Season Predictions

The 2024/23 football season promises to be one of the most hectic on record, with the domestic campaign bookended around the World Cup in Qatar.

Fans across the world will not be short of live games to choose from this term, and SportsToday has a list of the best soccer streaming sites where you can watch the action.

Several top leagues and competitions are already underway, and many more around the globe are poised to jump on the bandwagon over the coming weeks.

With that in mind, we take a look at the 2024/23 season and offer our predictions for all of the major domestic leagues and the European competitions.

Premier League

Manchester City and Liverpool have been the standout teams in the Premier League in recent years and that should continue this time around.

City’s acquisition of striker Erling Braut Haaland makes them even more fearsome and they could be tough to stop in their quest to win a fifth title in six years.

Liverpool has added forward Darwin Nunez to their ranks, but losing Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich may scupper their hopes of toppling City.

Tottenham Hotspur could mount a strong challenge to the big two under manager Antonio Conte, but they may have to settle for third place.

Prediction: Manchester City

La Liga

Real Madrid romped home ahead of Barcelona in La Liga last season and followed up by claiming a record 14th Champions League title.

Madrid has strengthened their squad this summer and will head into the new campaign in a more stable frame of mind than their biggest rivals.

Barca’s financial issues have cast uncertainty over the club, although that has not stopped them from bringing in several high-profile players.

While the Catalans should finish closer to Madrid this season, Madrid looks a good bet to clinch their third La Liga title in four years.

Prediction: Real Madrid

Serie A

AC Milan claimed last season’s Serie A title by just two points from Inter Milan and another thrilling battle is anticipated during the 2024/23 campaign.

Both Milan clubs should be in the mix again, but Juventus and Roma are fancied to put plenty of pressure on the San Siro pair.

Juve’s transfer business has been particularly impressive and it would be no surprise to see them win the title for the first time since 2020.

However, it would be foolish to write off Roma, who looks rejuvenated with former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in charge.

Prediction: Juventus

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich has rattled off ten successive Bundesliga titles and it is impossible to back against them extending their dominating run.

They kicked off the new campaign with a thumping 6-1 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt and clearly possess far too much quality for their rivals.

While many pundits feared Robert Lewandowski’s exit to Barcelona would scupper their title hopes, last week’s result demonstrated their credentials.

Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen should fight out second place, with a slight preference going to the former club.

Prediction: Bayern Munich

Ligue 1

Much like the Bundesliga, the Ligue 1 title race has largely been a foregone conclusion in recent years and this season should be no different.

Paris Saint-Germain has claimed the top spot in eight of the last 10 campaigns and is impossible to oppose this term.

Their financial resources give them an unfair advantage over their rivals and they should cruise to yet another title with the minimum of fuss.

Lyon, Marseille, Monaco, and Nice should be in the mix for a top three finish, but they will not come close to challenging PSG.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain

Scottish Premiership

The Scottish Premiership is another league that continually produces inevitable outcomes, with no team other than Rangers or Celtic claiming top spot since 1985.

Both clubs have strengthened their squads this summer and they have each won their opening two games of the new campaign.

Celtic have arguably been more impressive than Rangers to date, but there is likely to be little to choose between them in the final standings.

The results in the Old Firm meetings will probably determine which team wins the title and we could not put you off backing either of them.

Prediction: Rangers

Champions League

Having splashed the cash on securing Haaland’s services, everything is in place for Man City to finally break their duck in the Champions League.

The Norwegian has netted 23 goals in 19 appearances in Europe’s top club competition and will get plenty of chances to add to his tally with City.

Liverpool should progress to the latter stages of the competition but does not appeal as likely winners this season.

Madrid is expected to be the main challenger to City, while Bayern is another team who should be extremely competitive.

Prediction: Manchester City

Europa League

The structure of the Europe League makes it difficult to predict a winner, as eight Champions League teams join the competition for the knockout phase.

However, last season’s Europa Conference League winners Roma could be the team to beat with Mourinho pulling the strings.

The Portuguese always take European competitions seriously and the Serie A giants will believe they can win another trophy this term.

Arsenal could be dangerous, while the Champions League teams must be respected when they eventually drop into the competition.

Prediction: Roma

Europa Conference League

The Europa Conference League (UECL) came in for plenty of criticism when it was launched, but the inaugural edition proved to be a big success.

A final four line-up of Roma, Leicester City, Feyenoord, and Marseille highlighted how seriously the highest-ranked clubs took the competition.

West Ham United looks like an excellent bet to win the UECL this year, after progressing to the Europa League semi-finals last term.

The Hammers have bought well this summer and look well equipped to end their long wait to win another major European trophy.
