Minimum Hardware Requirements
These requirements apply to: Windows 2000 Professional Windows 2000 Server Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows 2000 Professional
- 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
- 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness [4 gigabytes (GB) RAM maximum.]
- 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 650 MB of free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.)
- Windows 2000 Professional supports single and dual CPU systems.
Windows 2000 Server
- 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
- 256 MB of RAM recommended minimum. (128 MB minimum supported; 4 GB maximum.)
- 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 1 GB of free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.)
- Windows 2000 Server supports up to four CPUs on one machine.
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
- 256 MB of RAM recommended minimum (128 MB minimum supported; 8 GB maximum.)
- 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 1 GB of free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.)
- Windows 2000 Advanced Server supports up to eight CPUs on one machine.
Note: The above minimums are those that have been published by Microsoft, and indeed the three operating systems do function with these minimum hardware components. However, speed and performance are key issues when determining whether your computer is up to the task of performing with one of these operating systems.
Our recommendations are not nearly this simplistic and are based upon a real-world approach founded upon what you intend to do with the respective computer, workstation or server.
We design and build each computer and server based upon what you intend to do with it! When comparing features and prices of the “off the shelf” products of most manufacturers against those that we provide to you, ask yourself whether any of those companies inquired as to what you intended to use the computer or server for. We do, and we will build it accordingly!
