Some of the undocumented Windows 2000 Tools
It never ceases to amaze us how so many undocumented operating system features tend to surface after all of the “How to” books have been written and published. Especially those that portend to be the “last word” in uncovering the all of the secrets hidden in the inner depths of the operating system.
Here are some of those hidden tools for which we haven’t found anything meaningful written anywhere.
We have learned that some tool-like functions are available within Windows 2000, but an have not been implemented within the GUI administrative tools, although they can be accessed by directly invoking the functions within a .DLL file.
Windows 2000 includes several such tools that you can access by running the Rundll32 command with accompanying command line arguments:
Network Identification Wizard:
rundll32 netplwiz.dll,NetAccWizRunDll
Add Network Place Wizard:
rundll32 netplwiz.dll,AddNetPlaceRunDll
Share Creation:
rundll32 ntlanui.dll,ShareCreate
Share Management:
rundll32 ntlanui.dll,ShareManage - Shares
Launch Device Manager:
rundll32 devmgr.dll DeviceManager_Execute
Add New TCP/IP Printer:
rundll32 tcpmonui.dll,LocalAddPortUI
Note: The portions after the .dll file name are case-sensitive
If there is an undocumented Windows 2000 Tool that you are aware of that we haven’t posted, and you would like to share it, let us know.
